10 Tips For Eye Health

Eyes form a significant part of your health. Taking care of your eyes is crucial in keeping vision problems at bay and keeping your eyes healthy.

1.Eat a healthy and balanced diet rich in antioxidants like fruits and vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids-rich food like fish, and food rich in Vitamin A like carrots, kale, sweet potatoes. Also, add Vitamin C-rich food to your diet because the antioxidative property of Vit C helps in fighting age-related eye degeneration. Carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin found in green leafy vegetables are also good for eye health.

2. Doing eye exercises helps in reducing the strain of the eyes. Eye exercises can also help in alleviating pressure on the eyes. Do exercises like zooming in and out, moving your gaze side to side, up-down, and diagonally. Rotate your eyeballs in a clockwise and anticlockwise direction and finish off with palming.

3. Protect your eyes from UV rays by wearing sunglasses when going out in the sun. UV rays can cause macular degeneration.

4. Get a good night’s sleep to give sufficient rest to your eyes. It promotes eye health.

5. Get your eyes examined regularly for vision-related impairments. It is an easy way to ensure eye health.

6. Maintain a healthy body weight as being obese or overweight increases the risk for eye diseases. The other risk factors include being diabetic, hypertensive, and having a family history of eye diseases.

7. Adequate fluid intake is essential for the body’s overall well-being, including your eye health. It helps in preventing dry eyes.

8. Quit smoking, as it can have adverse effects on your vision over time, like macular degeneration.

9. Wear and use contact lenses as per the recommendation of your opthalmologist. Use proper cleaning and storing guidelines for contact lenses.

10. To reduce digital eye strain while working on computers,

  • Ensure that your computer screen is below eye level.
